Free Online Charter Schools, a summer school secret

Free online charter schools, a summer school secret

After a successful summer of working ahead, I have to share a workaround that worked fantastic in our home. A bit of the backstory....

Getting a foreign language out-of-the-way as you enter high school is certainly a big win to allow your child to have more time to invest into their high school classes along with their concurrent college classes if you are doing that route.

In our home, our kids take Spanish one in seventh grade, Spanish two and eighth grade and we have recently learned about taking Spanish three over the summer .

So how can you take Spanish three before you enter high school? Well there’s actually two ways to do this. The first route we looked at was taking Spanish 3 at our local community college over the summer as it offered the class. However, what we found out was that in order to take it you needed to test into the class. What that test entailed was my daughter was given a blank sheet of paper and asked to write a timed story all in Spanish. ALL IN SPANISH. She was graded and did not pass the test based on spelling errors and grammatical errors. Again, this was to be done all in Spanish. So what was Plan B? A online charter school that could be taken over the summer in six weeks, which was the equivalent of a years worth of Spanish 3.

Depending on where you are located, you can look up free public charter schools. We are located in North county San Diego and the charter school that we used was called Pacific view charter school.

When you enroll at Pacific view charter school, it is similar to enrolling your child into kindergarten. They need a copy of the birth certificate as well as immunization record. Once all the paperwork is complete. You can sign up for the class you would like to take. These classes are 100% online .

So what was Spanish three over the summer like? A big time commitment but not hard. You are asked to commit four hours per day, Monday through Friday, for six weeks. The first three weeks are essentially the first semester and the second three weeks are the second semester, We broke that into having our daughter do two hours in the morning and two hours in the evening. She was afterall a teenager that needed a summer social life. The habit of doing this in the morning and in the evening was established,  so it wasn’t very hard.

Here is a link to Pacific view charter school:

There are many other charter schools you can look into if you try to get into one, but it is full. Another one we looked at is called Audeo. We did learn that these schools do fill up fast, so it’s always best to pre-plan before the school year ends. We found that people begin rolling in January for the summer program. Plan ahead.

So there you have it a free way to quickly earn class credits so that you can free up your child’s schedule during the school year.  I highly recommend this route as now my daughter who is a freshman already has her three years of a foreign language under her belt and she can focus on other classes as well as working towards her Associates Degree all well still having a fun high school experience . As a mom, I know that pre-planning is the key to success. Having this plan laid out in advanced rather than scrambling at the last minute is the best way to get everything done. I might’ve been there and I do know this.
