Homemade focaccia bread

Updated: Mar 1, 2024

OK, so this bread is super easy. Like any bread, it does take time in the sense that after mixing everything, you do need to allow the dough to rise. But by simply doing a little bit of planning ahead, you can make a great bread that will certainly be a crowd pleaser.

Now you can put different things on your focaccia bread, but for us, I like to do a simple rosemary, focaccia bread. We grow rosemary, so I can just pick some fresh from the yard. PS: If you don’t grow rosemary you should.

OK, so here’s a quick step-by-step:

  • First, grab all your ingredients as well as your KitchenAid mixer. That is going to do all the work when it comes to mixing. Make sure you use the dough hook attachment.

  • Warm up your water for a minute in the microwave. Any time we were adding yeast to water you only want the water warm not hot. If you have it too hot, you’ll kill it. OK, so add your yeast to your warm water and add your sugar then allow it to sit until it’s bubbly, similar to the photo.

  • Next, you put everything into the kitchen aid and mix until it forms a ball like above. Now if your dough turns out too wet and it’s not forming a ball, but rather it’s more slashing the sides of the bowl, that means you need more flour. If your dough has a bunch of flour on the bottom, and it’s not all forming a ball, that means you need more wet ingredients. If this happens, I add a little bit more oil, and if you still need some more liquid, simply add a teeny bit of water untill you form a ball like the photo below.

  • Now put your ball of dough into a bowl and cover, and place in a warm spot in your home allowing it to rise. I would allow it to rise for a minimum of an hour.

  • Once you have allowed the time to pass and your dough has risen, go ahead and flatten your dough onto parchment paper on a cookie sheet. Poke holes with your fingers in the flattened dough to make these dimples and then drizzle with olive oil, flake salt, and some rosemary.

  • Then simply bake at 350° for about 18 minutes. Check on it every once in a while as you just want it to be golden brown.

  • Once you take it out of the oven, allow too cool for a few minutes, and then the best way to cut focaccia bread is simply by using a pizza cutter.

That’s it! It really is very easy and can elevate your meal with that beautiful and tasty homemade bread. I might’ve been there and I do know that.
