After Christmas holiday sales what to buy

Updated: Jan 29, 2024

OK, so Christmas has come and gone so now is the time to think about your next years holiday decor. I know that seems kind of crazy but sometimes the holiday sales are just too good!

Now, I like my house really festive but again I try to keep in mind what to buy and where I’m going to store it. Therefore, when it comes to holiday sales, I think big picture rather than buying a bunch of random little things because they are on sale.

Here’s a quick list of the things I like to snag during those 70% off after Christmas sales and put away with my holiday stuff at the same time.

  • Christmas candles (you always need lots of hostess gifts during December)

  • Kitchen towels to use as gifts

  • Pretty ornaments

  • Upgrading things like wreaths or garlands

So first off, things like candles can always be used. With my Christmas stuff, I have a bin that is labeled giveaways. There’s always somewhere to go during the holiday season where you need to bring a gift. I have a bin where I have pre-purchased typically expensive hostess gifts that I have snagged for 70% off after Christmas.

Oh, now comes the bigger items. Make sure when you’re thinking about buying larger after-Christmas holiday items, you have a place for them and you’re able to swap out the old stuff to replace it with nicer stuff. Now, if you haven’t bought that fake Christmas tree, this is the time. I know it seems kind of crazy that it’s so far in advance, but if you want quality on a budget, or for those types of things you should think ahead.

Typically, I have one big splurge and this year with Christmas wreaths.

I think a key in holiday decor is to stay cohesive so that it looks beautiful and streamlined, rather than messy and two full and crazy.

I’ve always loved the traditional look of simple wreaths with a red bow over the windows at Christmas time. For me that would take 16 wreaths bows and ribbon to tie them on the windows in the front of the house. That would add up if it wasn’t 70% off, so this year that was my purchase. I bought the 18 inch wreaths from Michael’s, the red bows from Joann fabrics, and I had lots of red Kirkland brand ribbon to attach them.

After bringing home my Christmas score it was time to assemble the wreaths so that they were ready right away when I grabbed them to put out for next year. I am so excited to make this change to the outside of the home for next year. we’re everything will look cohesive and clean and bring a major pop of holiday cheer.

So there you have it, my tips on what to purchase after the holiday that you could pack away when you’re cleaning up from Christmas and you’ll have a pleasant surprise next year when you open your bins and you’ve got a few nice upgrades. Just remember to think big picture, so everything looks beautiful and cohesive rather than random and messy.

I might have been there in the random department, and now my look is more clean line and simple and that always turns out much better.

I might’ve been there, I might’ve done that.

Xo,

Mama
