Homemade fruit roll -ups... Peach edition
Who doesn’t love a good fruit roll-up? A great snack that is good for you and sweet like candy. In our home, my kids love them!
I have a neighbor who has a peach tree in her backyard, but she doesn’t like peaches. Peach trees, as well as other fruits, all come ripe at once. So there is one week each year that I get a phone call that the peaches are ready.
It’s a race between me and the birds who can get to the peaches first.
So here is a quick tutorial on how to make peach fruit roll-ups that is super simple, and doesn’t take very long at all as long as you have a food dehydrator. However, if you do not no worries. All you need to do is set your oven to a very low temp, like 200° and keep the leather in there for about six hours.
So here’s the rundown:
Once you have your bags of picked peaches that are ripe to process them this is what I do.

No need to Blanche or peel your peaches! That is so time-consuming and unnecessary. Simply put your peaches in the sink and give them a thorough wash and then use the back of a spoon and smash the seed out.
It looks like this:

Next, once you have all your peaches clean, and without the seed, put them in a pot to have them boil and break down. Don’t forget to add your sugar or I use honey as well as your lemon and water.

Next, once it has boiled, you can go ahead and turn off the heat and let it cool.

Next, it’s time for the blender. Simply add your peaches that have been boiled down to your blender and blend them all up.

Now you are ready to simply pour your peaches onto some parchment paper in batches and spread it out. I like to use my crepe tool, however, if you don’t have one, the back of a spatula or spoon is just fine.

Now put them in your food, dehydrator and let it do its thing. In the food dehydrator I let mine just sit overnight on low.

When they are done, simply grab them and get ready to roll them up I use my scissors and cut into strips and use some kitchen twine to hold the role together. Then I placed them all in a glass bowl and leave them on the counter.

And that’s it! I keep that glass bowl on the counter, filled with homemade fruit roll ups for my kids to have a delicious summertime treat that was homemade and good for them.
It might seem like a lot of steps, but honestly, it does not take very much time. I hate knowing that fruit is going to waste and this makes me feel good that those peaches are being eaten and my kids are eating something healthy. Packaging at the store can be deceiving, and even though the box might look like it’s healthy, when you flip it over and see all the extra ingredients that were added, turns out that that healthy snack wasn’t healthy at all. Making my own, I know what is in it and didn’t take very much money at all to give them that sweet treat. I might’ve been there and I do know that.
