Once upon a time, my husband had a dream of owning a restaurant. So the goal was set, and make a restaurant we did. I made this board and put it up on the outside of the building with a cute little cup of chalk and each day these lines would be filled up with all the goals our customers had for their own lives. I just loved seeing other peoples visions and what was a life goal to others put down for all to see in a one line space. An interactive board that was motivating people for the better.
Setting goals isn't just a January 1st thing. There's SO MANY REASONS why this is so important to do this... but basically think of this as your road map to accomplishing the things that you want to do in your life. How are you going to get where you want to be if you haven't laid out a map? If you don't write it down, it isn't a goal... it's a dream that you have in your head. Take it to the next level.
There's many different goals to make...
LIFE GOALS, MONTH GOALS, WEEK GOALS and DAILY GOALS.
You need to start by setting your life goals and then work backwards on how you are going to get there.
You need to set goals for the big picture, what direction are you pointing your ship (your life) to go?
Goals need to be set in your :
Home life
School life
Work life
Financial life.
We've all heard it before but when you set out to make your goals make them SMART goals.
SMART GOALS =
S- Specific
M- Measurable
A- Attainable
R- Realistic
T- Timely
Ok I'm sure your thinking "Ya, ya, ya, mom... I've heard this before..." But the thing is, hearing and taking action are two different things. I'm older and I know how fast this life actually goes. How quickly the days actually go by. But here's the thing, we have all met people that just seem to get so much done and accomplish it all and get to where they want to go while others are still just figuring it out. They have set their goal, they have set their eyes on the prize they want and now it's time for you to do the same.
Goals aren't just a one and done. They evolve. Passions can change and goals can change, but what they have in common is that you are working towards something.
Heres's what all the people who have actually achieved their goals have done.
First- knew what their goal was.
Second- they wrote it down. If you don't write it down and it's just in your head, that's a dream.
Third- they made it known. Telling people your goals makes you accountable. Hiding them is only a wish that you might actually do it. If people know, you will feel kinda dumb if you don't follow through.
Fourth- They stay on track by checking in on their progress. Its easy to get off course, that's why you need to check in and see if you are on course or need a course correction.
Think of the big picture. Where do you want to be in 20 years, 10 years, 5 years? If you know where you want to be, it's easier to make that map of how to get there. The last thing you want to do is have 5, 10, 20 years go by and you're still figuring it out.
Make your map now and check in MONTHLY. Don't wait until the 1st of the year to check in and see if you're on the right course, check in MONTHLY! Make it your goal to check in on the FIRST of each month to see if you're doing what is needed to make those goals a reality.
I have a FREE PRINTABLE below for you attached to make your goals in one spot. Now this is just a one page starter to get your ball rolling. It's up to you to take it NEXT LEVEL. You need to get the ball actually rolling and find all the little ways that you can get to your goal faster and more efficiently.
For me my tips I will give you is that I keep my goal sheet in a clear protective sleeve in you calendar book where I can see it frequently. I am reminded all the time where I want to go. Each Monday, I write down on a paper the days of the week, Monday through Sunday with the date next to each day and a list of all the things I need to do that week so that I can visually picture my week and plug in the not so timely tasks that still need to get done in that week like the Costco run and the Amazon returns and get birthday gifts in advanced rather than the day of. I also keep a little yellow notebook on my nightstand and I jot down what I need to do the next day. This not only helps me clear my brain rather than think over and over again about what I will need to do tomorrow, but it gets it down on paper so that I don't forget the next day. These are simple tricks and tips that keep my week and my day organized so I don't forget the upcoming events and keeps my days on track so I can get to those goals.
Ok, nows your time. Print out the attached sheet and start now. That's the biggest step. One foot in front of the other is the most important part. Life isn't a marathon. You don't need to get all your big goals accomplished in a sprint, but you do need to put one foot in front of the other with your map in hand so you can make it to the finish line of all the goals your trying to get to.
Setting written smart goals is beyond important in your life, and checking in with yourself monthly is what is going to help you with any course corrections that you may need. Take it from me, life happens and obsticals will get in your way, but if you know what goals your working towards, you can pick right back up where you left off and still accomplish everything you want to in this life. I might have been there when it comes to obstacles getting in the way, but I do know that the time will come if you stay the course to get to the other side.
Xo,
Mama
