The Treehouse, perfect for the college visitor

Updated: Nov 13, 2023

By now you’ve heard the backstory on why the treehouse was built, the blessing that it’s been to have a place for my father to stay, and now it’s been used yet again to house our daughter when she comes home from college for the summer as well as holiday visits.

After my father was moved into a skilled nursing facility near by, we remodeled the treehouse with fresh furnishings to make it guest ready. I found this cute bed on Amazon. The link is here:

I bought a nice white duvet cover (which is what we typically use in our home). I do love duvet covers as I wash bedding frequently and they are easy to takeoff and throw in the wash with the sheets. We are a family that mainly does white bedding because I like to bleach everything so it smells clean and rids the bedding of any spots. The link for a good basic white bedding is here:

Don't forget the insert:

We also bought a inexpensive wardrobe closet or that I found here:

I used to Ikea slim mirrors on the outside and put on some better hardware to give it a more elevated look.

We changed up the decorations and gave everything a real good wipe down

( walls included) before we turn the place over to our daughter who came to stay for the summer and comes back for holiday visits. It allows some independence so she feels like she isn't staying inside the house, but at the same time not that far away.

When we don't have someone staying in the treehouse, it is used for the original purpose, our daughters spot to hang out with her friends on the weekends. They can go down there pop some popcorn in the microwave and watch a movie or hangout with friends, or just some time away to escape with their favorite dog.

My husband did put up a ring camera on the outside just so we can make sure that the guests that are here with our teenagers leave at an appropriate time.

We love how this new spin on the treehouse has turned out and are happy when it’s occupied with our favorite guests. Having a place for people to stay that’s not inside our home helps to make long visits not feel cramped for any of us. Our kids know that there's always room for them and friends to stay. It also provides that little extra bit of separation that gives them a bit of independence which makes it so much more enjoyable for all of us. When our kids leave and start to use those wings to fly, it's great to have a space for them that they know they can come back home anytime. In our case, the treehouse is our home away from home for them and it makes us so happy that it gets used so often. We absolutely love having college kids come back to stay for a visit. I have been there, and I do know that.

Xo,

Mama
