Blackberry season! A plant that grows super easy no green thumb needed

Hurray...Blackberry season is here!

So here in Southern California the month of May and June are blackberry season. We get an overabundance of blackberries here at the house and certainly cannot eat them all ourselves. And trust me I try. When I take the animals out in the morning, it seems like my first round of breakfast is eating the berries right off the bush.

What's amazing about blackberries is how easy they are to grow and how those berries that you didn’t eat fall onto the ground and make a new plant. We get so many Blackberry volunteers that I simply take a small little shovel to move them somewhere else in the yard. What's amazing is that they survive and keep growing. Many plants are not hardy like this. They get mad and die. Not the blackberries, move give them some sun and a little water and you are in business.

Here are blackberries. Not only do we eat them, but the tortoises absolutely love blackberry season.

So I encourage you, if you have a little bit of space in your yard, get a blackberry plant. For the first year, you just need one. It will multiply. I love growing blackberries certainly more than strawberries because they grow on a bush rather than the ground, so don’t get slugs or things eating them, plus they really do reply quickly. I might’ve been there and I do know that.
