Multi-generational living paired with lots of gardens makes for a abundant harvest

We are blessed to live on a property with quite a few gardens as well as many producing trees. Now living on a large property involves quite a bit of work. It certainly isn’t a plant it once, and turn on the sprinklers type of scenario. If you’re a gardener you certainly know that. Now we do have a gardener who comes to help, but the property really is a full-time job.

We have animals that need to be cared for as well as fruits and vegetables. Almost year-round. You can see the girls with their fruit pickers in their hands. If you don't have one, I highly recommend buying one like the one I have linked here:

Beyond the animals and the eggs we eat from the chickens, how great it is when there is so much produce to share. We also plant spices like rosemary, oregano, basil, mint, etc. and just go out to the yard when we need it for a recipe.

We also have a lot of producing trees. Here’s a quick list of what we grow.

  • Lemons

  • Oranges

  • Limes

  • Grapefruit

  • Tangerines

  • Bananas

  • Pomegranate

  • Kumquat

  • Mangoes

  • Macadamia nuts

  • Dragon fruit

  • Guava

Now, with all those trees, we certainly have more than enough for all of us. If you only had say two people living on a property like this, that would be a lot of work to pick and take care of the fruit and all of the plants. With all of us on one property, we can all help out and enjoy the fruits of our labor.

Some fruits make it up to the house, while some fruit is just too tempting to enjoy out in the yard. If you haven’t seen dragon fruit before here’s what it looks like. This variety is hot pink on the outside and white with little black seeds on the inside, it’s very healthy for you and apparently has lots of anti-cancerous properties. This stuff is so easy to grow as it’s basically a cactus. All of ours have been grown from plants that we received from someone else here’s what it looks like.

And here’s what the inside looks like :

We love munching on tangerines while walking around too. I think our most picked fruit would be the lemons. We use them like crazy. In the summer when they are perfectly ready, we pick a bunch and juice them so that we are always ready for a pitcher of homemade lemonade. We simply pour one cup of juice in a snack-sized ziplock which is the right about for a pitcher.

Just like the saying goes many hands make light work. That is just a small taste of the fruit and citrus trees here on the property. We are grateful to be able to utilize the land so that we can work together and be able to enjoy all the sweet and sour produce that is grown in our own backyard. I might’ve been there, and I do know this
