Sunflowers making sunflowers- planting sunflowers in March in San Diego

Seeing backyard sunflowers pop up just screams Summer is almost here! Now in order to reap those benefits which will come in the summer, you have to plan ahead and get your seeds in the ground in advanced.

The way that we grow sunflowers is simply by saving the sunflower head from harvest before. I simply stored it in a Ziploc, and keep it with my seeds. Note: do not seal the Ziploc unless the sunflower has completely dried out. If you seal it and there is moisture, it will mold.

Now here’s a photo of what those dried-out sunflowers look like :

The sunflower plant is beautiful to look at, as nature really is amazing. All of those seeds in the center are just waiting to make the next go-around of sunflowers.

To grow them, pop seed into a soil starter just like we have done here:

In the photo above, you can see once the plant has sprouted. The sunflower is still on the top just waiting to fall off.

Now once they’re at the point similar to the photo above, they are ready to be planted in the ground.

And that’s it. Sunflowers making sunflowers. Just another visual on how amazing nature is. I hope that you do this at some point as really visualizing this process makes you appreciate all of God’s creations. I might’ve been there, and I do know this.
